Nigeria v England: Arsenal, Chelsea starlets of Nigerian descent in line to face Future Eagles April 17th
Published: April 06, 2024Nigeria's U16 national team, nicknamed the Future Eagles, have been invited to compete at the UEFA Development Tournament which will hold in Spain from April 12 to April 17, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
After thrashing Morocco 5-3 in their last outing on March 25, the Future Eagles are set to travel to Europe for three international friendlies against Belgium, Italy and England, with all the matches taking place at the Pinatar Arena Football Center in San Pedro del Pinatar.
The Future Eagles will take on Belgium in their opening game on Friday, April 12 at 2000 hours CEST, before facing Italy on Sunday, April 14 at 2000 hours and finally England on Wednesday, April 17 at 1300 hours.
Three talented teenagers of Nigerian descent are in contention to face the Future Eagles on matchday three when England face off with Nigeria.
Arsenal goalkeeper Owen Asemota, Wolverhampton Wanderers fullback Wesley Okoduwa and Chelsea forward Rio Ngumoha have been selected in the Young Lions squad for the tournament in Spain.
West Ham midfielder Chinaza Nwosu and versatile Chelsea midfielder Landon Emenalo have not been called up for the training camp.
Asemota, Okoduwa and Ngumoha were key members of the England U16 squad that won the Football Federations Cup in February 2024.
The Future Eagles are handled by Patrick Bassey, who is assisted by Hussein Lawal and Augustine Iyamu.
Head coach Bassey is taking twenty players comprising two goalkeepers, four defenders, six midfielders, six attackers and two utility players for the UEFA Development Tournament and the team will depart Nigeria at 0400 hours on Tuesday, April 9th.
The two utility players named to the roster are midfielders that can also play as defenders.
