2026 WCQ: Confirmed date and venue for matchday 3 fixture between Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana
Published: April 12, 2024Through a statement on their official website, the Nigeria Football Federation have announced that the Super Eagles will face South Africa's Bafana Bafana in a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier on Friday, June 7th, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The highly anticipated clash comes on the heels of their dramatic penalty shootout encounter in the 2023 AFCON semifinals, where the Super Eagles emerged victorious.
The upcoming match promises to be another fierce battle for both teams.
South Africa currently holds the upper hand, sitting at second place in Group C with three points from two matches, one point ahead of Nigeria in third position. Rwanda leads the group with four points.
This World Cup qualifying group also includes Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and Benin. Only the group winner will secure automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
With a passionate home crowd expected in Uyo, the three-time African champions will be poised to capitalize on their home advantage and potentially leapfrog South Africa in the group standings.
The 2023 AFCON runners up will look to take some inspiration from the women's national team known as the Super Falcons, as they were victorious in two-legs against South Africa's Banyana Banyana to book their place at the Paris 2024 Olympics after a 16-year absence.
