'I know' - Former Everton CEO reveals Toffees are interested in signing 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup winner

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has revealed that the Toffees are interested in signing Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho in the summer transfer window.

Iheanacho will walk away from the King Power Stadium as a free agent on July 1, 2024 if he does not put pen to paper on a new contract in the coming weeks.

The 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup winner is very attractive to clubs in the Premier League because he is classed as a homegrown player by the English Football Association.

After the Foxes' last match of the season, Iheanacho more or less confirmed his departure from the King Power stadium as he was spotted wearing a t-shirt with the inscription: "We’ve got history. When I’m gone, you gon’ miss me."

The Super Eagles star found himself out of favour upon his return to England after competing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, logging a paltry 57 minutes from a possible 1,350 in the Championship.

Wyness suggested that Iheanacho and his agent could be pressurizing the Leicester City Board to negotiate a better deal.

"I would’ve thought it would be his agent that would’ve advised him on the t-shirt," he told Football Insider's Insider Track podcast.

"There will have been discussions about his future behind the scenes and both sides may be close.

"He could be trying to put fan pressure on the board. All these little things aren’t a coincidence, there is usually something going on behind the scenes.

"I think he can do a big job for Premier League sides, he’s someone I’d keep an eye on. I know Everton have been interested in him, and he’s got the ability to get a good move in the Premier League.

"But for Leicester, they will want to keep as much stability as possible. However, if you can’t reach agreements, then nothing can get done."

Iheanacho has also been linked with a potential move to Keith Wyness' former employers Aston Villa in the summer.
