Published: May 23, 2024Nigeria head coach Finidi George reckons that he knows the strengths and weaknesses of South Africa's national team ahead of a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier between the Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on June 7.
At a media briefing in Lagos on Wednesday, the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations-winning winger revealed that he has picked trusted staff who will help him in his role as Super Eagles coach, including Turkish video analyst Mehmet Ozturk.
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has named a 36-player preliminary squad for next month’s World Cup qualifier against Nigeria, with thirteen players expected to be dropped from the traveling squad to Uyo.
The roster is headlined by Al Ahly forward Percy Tau, Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena and 2023 AFCON Golden Glove winner Ronwen Williams.
Finidi revealed that Ozturk has provided him with a detailed scouting report on each Bafana Bafana player, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses.
"It's a well calculated picks, we have also the fitness coach which is needed in modern day football and a match analyst. What that guy has done so far is amazing," Finidi told reporters.
"What he has sent to me, analyzing player by player, not the Super Eagles players but the opponents.
"We play South Africa first. What I have on my phone is amazing. It is not that I'm not watching but when someone will break it down, the strengths and weaknesses, it's a fantastic job."
Finidi has confirmed that he will announce the Super Eagles squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches by this weekend.
