U17 AFCONQ: Five exciting Golden Eaglets players who put themselves in the shop window

The Golden Eaglets achieved third place in the WAFU ZONE B U17 AFCON qualifiers by defeating host Ghana 3-2 on Tuesday.

Nigeria did not qualify for the next phase of the qualifier, as only the finalists would move on to represent the zone.

Despite this setback, the primary goal of age-grade tournaments is to develop future soccer stars.

Nigeria has a history of producing top players who started in the Golden Eaglets category, such as Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, and Kanu Nwankwo.

While Manu Garba's team fell short of their objective, they did produce talented players with promising careers ahead.

Allnigeriasoccer.com highlights five players who put themseleves in the shop window and have the potential for successful careers in the sport.

1. AbdulMuiz Adeleke

A young striker, scored the deciding goal in the last minute against Ghana, showcasing his potential to become a well-known name in Ghanaian football.

Since his first start against Nigeria Republic, he has been a constant threat for defenders, scoring 4 goals in 4 games.

If nurtured properly, Adeleke could be the future of the Eagles attack.

2. Simon Cletus

The captain of the side, demonstrated his skill in controlling and dictating game tempo from midfield.

Along with creating scoring opportunities for his teammates, he provided two assists in a game against Togo.

With proper grooming, Cletus could potentially fill the number 10 shirt left by legends like Jay Jay Okocha and John Obi Mikel in the senior national team.

3. Edward Ochigbo

Another talented young midfielder, stands out for his work rate, goal-scoring ability, and long-range shooting.

His late runs in the box and outside shots make him a threat to defenders.

Ochigbo's standout performance in the 3-0 win against Togo earned him the Man of the Match award.

4. Chika Sylvester

An attacking fullback reminiscent of former Nigerian international Chidi Odiah, excels in both offensive and defensive duties.

His technical ability and solid defensive skills make him a valuable asset to the Eaglets.

Throughout the tournament, Sylvester posed a constant threat on the right wing, showcasing his attacking prowess.

5. Abdulwaris Yunus

A key figure in the Eaglets defense that kept a clean sheet in the group stage, demonstrated his strength, dominance, and technical prowess against Ghana.

Winning aerial duels and providing calmness to the team, Yunus proved to be a reliable presence in the backline.

Overall, the Golden Eaglets showed promise and potential in the tournament in Ghana, with young talents like Adeleke, Cletus, Ochigbo, Sylvester, and Yunus stepping up and showcasing their abilities.

With proper management and development, these players have the potential to become future stars in Nigerian football.
