NLC strike prevents Iwobi, Onyeka, Ajayi, 5 others from joining Super Eagles in Uyo
Published: June 03, 2024The Super Eagles continued their preparations for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying match against South Africa with a training session in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Monday morning.
Manager Finidi George put fifteen players through their paces in today's workout at the training pitch of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
The rigorous training session, which lasted approximately two hours, focused on fitness and shooting drills, plus tactical sessions.
Finidi is still awaiting the arrival of eight invitees namely Maduka Okoye, Semi Ajayi, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Calvin Bassey, Frank Onyeka, Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman and Paul Onuachu.
According to the Super Eagles media team, the aforementioned Super Eagles players are already in the country but cannot link up with their international teammates in Uyo due to the ongoing Nigeria Labour Congress strike, which has halted domestic flights.
There will be no training on Monday evening. Instead, the players will have time to rest and participate in a recovery session.
The Super Eagles started preparations for the double-header against Bafana Bafana and Cheetahs this past weekend.
Chidozie Awaziem, Alhassan Yusuf, Ibrahim Olawoyin, Kenneth Igboke, Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Samuel Chukwueze, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Terem Moffi, Stanely Nwabali, Ismaila Sadiq, Ojo Olorunleke, Benjamin Tanimu, Victor Boniface and Raphael Onyedika were all involved in Monday's workout.
