Osimhen's successor: Napoli draw up four-man striker shortlist including Chelsea striker
Published: June 03, 2024After a tumultuous season, Napoli looks to turn the tide with the appointment of Antonio Conte as their new manager.
Conte, the former Chelsea boss, has reportedly inked a three-year deal with the Italian club, signaling a fresh start for the Parthenopeans
Set to be unveiled officially on Wednesday, Conte's arrival brings anticipation of significant changes in Napoli's setup.
One of the immediate challenges for Conte is the impending departure of Victor Osimhen.
The Nigerian forward is poised to exit Napoli with a hefty release clause of 130 million euros looming over his head.
He has been monitored by several European heavyweights, adding urgency to Napoli's search for a replacement.
According to Calciomercato, among the names circulating as potential successors to Osimhen, Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku stands out.
However, Chelsea's demands, which include a substantial transfer fee of about forty million euros, pose significant hurdles to the proposed deal.
Alternatively, Viktor Gyokeres, who impressed during his stint with Sporting Lisbon, emerges as a candidate but his acquisition may come at a steep price.
Artem Dovbyk of Girona and Jonathan David of Lille are also viewed as replacements for Osimhen.
Dovbyk, in particular, is viewed as a pragmatic choice given his perceived affordability compared to other targets.
Meanwhile, Osimhen finds himself sidelined with an injury, keeping him out of action for up to five weeks.
His absence rules him out of Nigeria's crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.
