Nwabali namechecks Man Utd, Real Madrid as he discusses Chippa United future; speaks on WCQs
Published: June 06, 2024Stanley Nwabali namechecked two European powerhouses Manchester United and Real Madrid as he provided an update on his future at South African DStv Premiership side Chippa United.
The Super Eagles goalkeeper suggested that there is nothing concrete at the moment amid speculation linking him with possible moves to European, Asian and South African clubs in the summer transfer window.
Nwabali has seen his stock rise on the back of his impressive performances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he set a new record for the most minutes without a conceding a goal by a Nigerian goalkeeper at the AFCON.
The 27-year-old confessed that he is keen on embarking on a new chapter in his career but stressed that he will not force through a move from Chippa United.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Nwabali said: "I really wish leaving but at this point there's no club, I don't really need to force it because If I can put up any performance with Chippa United in my national team, it doesn't change anything if I'm in Manchester United or if I'm in Real Madrid.
" I will leave if there's a club but I stick to my club if there's no club."
Nwabali played down suggestions that he will definitely be chosen to start in goal for the matchday three World Cup qualifying fixture against South Africa.
He explained why the Super Eagles have an advantage over Bafana Bafana in Friday's game at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
"I always say AFCON is a different tournament. When you have a good squad and also good players in the country, when you get a call-up you appreciate it and just wait for the coach to decide who is going to participate in each of the games.
"It's quite difficult we didn't make the last World Cup. Talking about the games we played against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, this game against South Africa is a little bit difficult because we met them at AFCON.
"But I'm not seeing it as a difficult game because playing in front of our fans will give us an edge over them and a good performance that day on June 7."
The Super Eagles have won six matches, drawn one and lost four while conceding thirteen goals with Nwabali in between the sticks.
