Fact check: Was there a personality clash between Super Eagles players during Osimhen's beach party?
Published: June 24, 2024Speculation in the local media claiming that there was a personality clash involving the Super Eagles players during a beach party 'organized by Nigerian socialite and businessman Cubana Chief Priest' this past weekend is a figment of the imagination of the writer.
Reigning African Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen has recently been in the news for all the wrong reasons after his rant on Instagram Live criticizing erstwhile Super Eagles coach Finidi George.
The sensational report suggested that the Napoli center forward snubbed his international teammate John Ogu during the party simply because they were not photographed together at the event.
The website also made a spurious claim that Osimhen kept his distance from Ogu during the beach party and Bayer Leverkusen star Victor Boniface did not post any interactions with the midfielder, while Henry Onyekuru was caught mingling with both players.
Allnigeriasoccer.com contacted Maccabi Jaffa star Ogu to verify the authenticity of the report.
Claim 1: Osimhen and Ogu recently attended a beach party and cruise organized by Nigerian socialite Obi Cubana Chief Priest.
Verdict: False
John Ogu said: "Victor Osimhen was the one that organized the beach party that had a lot of us".
Osimhen's mentor, Odion Ighalo is on the same page as Ogu, confirming through a social media post that he was invited to the beach party by the Napoli player.
Claim 2: Osimhen appeared to snub Ogu at the party as no one captured them together during the affair. Boniface seemed to support Osimhen by not posting any interactions with Ogu, while Onyekuru appeared neutral.
Verdict: Incorrect
Reacting to those claims, John Ogu stated: "Odion Ighalo, Anthony Nwakaeme, Henry Onyekuru, Obafemi Martins, Paul Onuachu, Sylvester Igbonu, and other celebrities attended the party. It was all merry and well organized".
Claim 3: Ogu was once one of Osimhen’s biggest supporters. However, this longtime friendship seems to have deteriorated.
Verdict: Misinformation, lacking in common sense. Victor Osimhen would not have invited John Ogu to the beach party if there was bad blood between them.
Reacting, Ogu said: "Victor Osimhen is a man that has my respect".
