Levski Sofia hoping to complete deal for 2019 Fifa U17 World Cup star Ikenna
Published: July 07, 2024Levski Sofia are hoping to complete the signing of former Nigeria U17 international Clement Ikenna in the coming days.
Ikenna was one of the standout players for the Golden Eaglets at the 2019 U17 Africa Cup of Nations and Fifa U17 World Cup, going the distance in nine consecutive matches during the tournaments held in Tanzania and Brazil respectively.
After the central defender attained the age of majority, he transferred to the youth team of NK Zagorec in Croatia and has been playing for NK Dubrava ZG since 2022.
Ikenna has established himself as a key player at NK Dubrava ZG, scoring three goals in 61 outings from his defensive position.
According to reports in Bulgaria, including Sportal, Levski's parting with Ricardinho has freed up a non-EU roster spot and they will not delay filling the quota.
Ikenna, who can also be deployed as a defensive midfielder and right back, is expected to arrive in Sofia on Sunday to conclude negotiations with Levski.
Last summer, NK Dubrava ZG rejected an offer worth 450,000 euros for Ikenna and another former Golden Eaglets player Peter Agba, who later moved to NK Olimpija.
Ikenna has entered the last year of his contract at NK Dubrava ZG and is valued at 400,000 euros by Transfermarkt.
Garba Lawal, Omonigho Temile, Justice Christopher, Richard Eromoigbe, Ekundayo Jayeoba and Tunde Adeniji have played for Levski Sofia in the past.
