Chelsea boss namechecks Tosin as he explains why Chalobah was dropped from USA Tour squad
Published: July 24, 2024Speaking ahead of Chelsea's game against Wrexham, Enzo Maresca explained the reason behind leaving Trevoh Chalobah out of his squad for the United States pre-season tour and namechecked Tosin Adarabioyo while doing so.
The exclusion of Chalobah has raised a lot of eyebrows with Chelsea determined to dispose of the Cobham Academy product this summer, with the club deeming him surplus to requirement.
The former England youth international made 17 appearances across all competitions last season though was hampered by injuries and it appears that his time at Stamford Bridge is over.
He has been linked with Fulham, Manchester United and West Ham and according to Fabrizio Romano, he is being valued between £30m to £35m as the Blues hope to get more money to fortify their squad.
When asked about Chalobah's absence while previewing his first game as the Blues' boss, Maresca said he felt sad about the defender's situation but he had to make the decision
In quotes relayed by The Mirror UK, the Italian tactician said: "The Trevoh situation for me is quite clear, we have Axel [Disasi] there, we have Tosin [Adarabioyo] there, we have Wes [Fofana] who in these two weeks has worked very good and is finally back, we have some very young profiles like Josh Acheampong who is doing fantastic.
"It’s a sad decision but we have to take the decision."
Tosin will be competing for a place ahead of the Premier League giants tie against Wrexham and must be relishing the opportunity to impress his new manager.
He alongside Lesley Ugochukwu, Noni Madueke, Carney Chukwuemeka and Tyrique George are in contention to feature against the League One side.
