Exciting forward Ladapo training with Rochdale after leaving Charlton Athletic
Published: July 26, 2024
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that National League club Rochdale have taken exciting Nigerian forward Tolu Ladapo on trial with a view to a transfer.
The 20-year-old is currently a free agent following his departure from League One club Charlton Athletic at the end of last month, upon the expiry of his contract.
Manager Jimmy McNulty ran the rule over Ladapo on Tuesday evening when he featured as a trialist for ninety minutes in their 2-2 draw with Macclesfield.
Before heading to Rochdale, he trained with Grimsby Town but it is understood that a deal is unlikely to happen, even though he showed glimpses of his potential during his trial period.
Ladapo has a bit of non-league experience as he spent time on loan at Hungerford during the second half of the 2023-2024 season.
He joined Charlton Athletic at the start of his U15 season, rising through the youth team ranks to make his senior debut in an EFL Trophy clash against Gillingham FC at the Valley on August 31, 2022.
Ladapo, who is a pacey forward, has cited Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman as his role model.
He is aiming to become the third Nigerian player signed by Rochdale in the summer transfer window, after Tobi Adebayo-Rowling and Ody Alfa who joined from Notts County and Chelmsford respectively.
