The Super Falcons lost by a lone goal for the second consecutive time in the Paris 2024 Olympics, to defending champions Spain this time around.

Allnigeriasoccer.com runs the rule over the Nigerian players in action

The starters

Goalkeeper

Chiamaka Nnadozie: She made at least three fantastic saves to keep the Super Falcons in the game but must be disappointed not to have kept out Alexia Putellas' free-kick.8/10

Defenders

Michelle Alozie: It was a good battle between her and the attacking Spanish right back Ona Batlle and rarely lost out in a duel before she got taken off. 7.5/10

Osinachi Ohale: She kept Salma Paralluelo quiet and made a fantastic block in the second half to deny Putellas. 8/10

Tosin Demehin: She didn't put a foot wrong but wasn't as busy as her colleague. She had decent performance all-game. 7.5/10

Chidinma Okeke:It was an improved showing from the left back who looked difficult to beat as opposed to her performance against Brazil. 6.5/10

Midfielders and forwards

Deborah Abiodun: She was hard working yet again and was always to stick her leg out to disrupt La Roja's rhythm. 7.5/10

Christy Ucheibe: Alongside Abiodun at the base of the midfield, the Benfica midfielder also put up a good show with her industry. 7/10

Toni Payne: She was quiet yet again and one has to question why she keeps getting the nod to start. 5.5/10

Esther Okoronkwo: Her mobility was useful whenever the Super Falcons sought to attack through the counter and could have buried one of the chances that came her way. 5.5/10

Asisat Oshoala: Dubbed the queen of African football, the former Barcelona striker had a diffuclt match and had to drop down to the midfield for her to get involved in the game. Her most noteworthy contribution was her reverse pass to Ajibade on 65 minutes but the Super Falcons captain blazed over the bar.

Amid concerns about her fitness and the disciplinary tightrope she was walking after being booked in the 37th minute, the reigning African Footballer of the Year was replaced in the 72nd minute. 5/10

Rasheedat Ajibade: The skipper failed to lead by example, missing the Super Falcons two best chances of the game. It was a game to forget for the Atlético de Madrid star. 4/10

The substitutes

Nicole Payne:She didn't look as vibrant as Alozie that she replaced but didn't do any wrong. 5.5/10

Ifeoma Onumonu: She didn't pose the same threat as Okoronkwo whom she replaced. 4/10

Chinwendu Ihezuo: She incredibly missed a good chance to snatch a draw for the record African champions. 4/10

Uchenna Kanu: She came on very late in the game to have an impact N/A
