'Could well be the case' - Ex-Liverpool forward has his say on Osimhen's potential move to Chelsea

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has commented on Victor Osimhen's potential move to Chelsea in the ongoing summer transfer window, saying that the Nigeria international would be under pressure to deliver the goods if the transfer were to happen due to his price tag.

The reigning African Footballer of the Year is angling for a move away from the Diego Maradona Stadium with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain credited with an interest.

However, the stumbling block to a deal is Osimhen's release clause of 130 million euros.

In a bid to avoid breaching Financial Fair Play Regulations, Chelsea have proposed signing the Nigerian on loan with an option to buy included in the deal, but the striker's agent Roberto Calenda is against the idea of his client moving to Stamford Bridge on a temporary basis.

Stan Collymore has pointed out that some marquee players signed by Chelsea in the past did not live up to expectations and explained why Osimhen could flop at the Blues.

"That player, whoever it was, got talked about way beyond whether they were good, bad or indifferent on the pitch," Collymore told Caughtoffside, via The Chelsea Chronicle

"It was always that the record signing would be expected to make the difference which I always thought was very unfair.

“The big-name signing that won’t just entertain us but will also become the poster boy of both his club and the entire Premier League.

“That could well be the case for Victor Osimhen if his rumoured move to Chelsea comes off, because the mind boggling numbers then puts unfair pressure and expectation on him."

New Napoli manager Antonio Conte has rested Osimhen in his side's first four games of the pre-season amid speculation surrounding the future of the 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner.
