Spanish-Nigerian striker's potential move to Chelsea hinges on Man City star's exit to Atletico Madrid

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Spanish-Nigerian striker Samu Omorodion will only join Chelsea if Atletico Madrid sign Manchester City star Julián Álvarez.

The Spanish La Liga giants have submitted an official bid to Manchester City for the Argentina striker and are reportedly closing in on a move for him which could pave the way for Omorodion to move to Stamford Bridge.

Álvarez has decided to leave the defending Premier League champions, having been playing second fiddle to Erling Haaland since his arrival at the club.

Chelsea are already in discussion with Atletico Madrid for Omorodion and are looking to seal a deal for £35m after they had an official bid rejected by the Spanish side in June.

With the signing of Alexander Sørloth and imminent arrival of Álvarez, it is difficult to see the 20-year-old get enough game time in the forthcoming campaign.

Therefore, it isn't surprising that Atletico Madrid would be willing to let the Spain youth international leave, with two senior strikers set to be added to their books.

He is currently representing Spain at the 2024 Olympics, where bagged a goal in their 2-1 loss to Egypt in the group stage.

Should he complete a move to Chelsea, he may be unavailable for selection when Enzo Maresca's side face Manchester City on the opening matchday in the Premier League as a result of his participation in the Olympics.

Transfer market specialist David Ornstein has highlighted that the possible signing of Omorodion is independent of Romelu Lukaku and Victor Osimhen talks between Chelsea and Napoli, wth negotiations set to continue.
