Nottingham Forest target another striker to rival Taiwo Awoniyi

Super Eagles star Taiwo Awoniyi will have to brace up for more competition at Nottingham Forest as the Premier League side are being linked with another striker.

According to Telegraaf,  Nottingham Forest are interested in snapping up Feyenoord striker Santiago Giménez and have submitted a €25m bid for him though their offer is set to turned down.

Giménez had earlier turned down the opportunity of joining Forest this summer but after discussion with the club's owner alongside the manager Nuno Espírito Santo, he is now open to moving to the City Ground.

Feyenoord are not shutting the door for the Mexican striker to leave and if Nottingham Forest are able to complete a deal for him, it will put Awoniyi's place at the club at risk.

The Nigerian striker has had to deal with injuries since moving to Forest though has played no small role in ensuring that they keep their place in the Premier League since gaining promotion in 2022.

Due to his fitness issues, Nottingham Forest had to sign Chris Wood from Newcastle on loan in January 2023 before signing him permanently last summer after his fruitful loan spell.

The New Zealand international has displaced Awoniyi as the first choice striker, starting 20 Premier League games last season and was also preferred over the Nigerian striker in last weekend's Premier League opener against AFC Bournemouth.

With Giménez's likely arrival, the former Liverpool striker's place at the City Ground may be in more jeopardy.
