New rival for Aina as Nottingham Forest announce signing of Aston Villa's fullback
Published: August 21, 2024With a statement on their official website, Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of Álex Moreno from Aston Villa.
The former Barcelona youth teamer has moved to the City Ground on loan for the remainder of the season, with the Reds holding an option to sign him on a permanent basis at the end of the 2024-2025 campaign.
Moreno has transferred to Nottingham Forest with the hope of playing more minutes as he could only manage eleven starts over the course of last season in the Premier League.
Predominantly a left-sided fullback who occasionally plays as a wing-back, Álex Moreno will provide competition for Super Eagles star Ola Aina.
In his first season at Nottingham Forest, the two-footed Aina was mostly deployed at left-back and also played some matches either as a right-back or wing-back.
The former England youth international was asked to play the role of a left-back during Nottingham Forest's season opener against Bournemouth and suffered an injury early in the second half, leading to his substitution.
Exactly three months ago, Forest activated a one-year extension in Ola Aina’s contract, keeping him at the City Ground until at least the end of this season.
Nottingham Forest, who drew their opening game against the Cherries, travel to Joe Aribo's Southampton in the next round of matches in the Premier League this coming Saturday.
