Nigerian midfielder on brink of ending 16-year association with Chelsea, set to join Empoli

English-born Nigerian midfielder Faustino Anjorin is on the brink of ending his 16-year association with Chelsea.

As reported by Nizaar Kinsella, the Cobham Academy product is close to completing a move to Empoli on a permanent deal, the duration of which is unknown presently.

Empoli escaped relegation by the whiskers in the last campaign, finishing one point adrift of the drop zone and have been fortifying their squad with the injection of more quality in this transfer window.

They have signed six players already and Anjorin is now set to be their seventh acquisition of this summer.

The 22-year-old has struggled to nail a spot in Chelsea's first team since making his debut against Grimsby Town in a Carabao Cup clash back in September 2019.

He has made just four appearances since then and has been made to garner his first-team experience on loan with Lokomotiv Moscow, Huddersfield Town and Portsmouth in the past three seasons.

Anjorin spent last season on loan at Portsmouth, where he made 14 appearances across all competitions and notched two goals.

Despite the arrival of new manager Enzo Maresca, the former England youth international doesn't appear to have a future with the Blues and has decided to seek greener pastures at Empoli.
