Madueke a subject of controversy ahead of Chelsea's clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers
Published: August 25, 2024Noni Madueke is a subject of controversy ahead of Chelsea's Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux this afternoon.
The 22-year-old is still waiting for his first start under Enzo Maresca, having been an unused substitute in the Premier League opener against Manchester City and came on as a substitute in the UEFA Conference League qualification tie against Servette last Thursday.
According to the online edition of Daily Mail, Madueke is among the Blues' traveling squad for today's game against Wolves but has grabbed the headline in a way he couldn't have wanted.
The England youth international published a post on his Instagram account describing the city of Wolverhampton with a denigrating word but has since deleted the post.
Madueke has defended his actions, explaining that the post was shared in error and was not meant to disparage Wolverhampton.
He wrote:"Damn wrong Instagram account. You lot are too fast".
Madueke is the only Chelsea player to have scored from open play since the start of the season last weekend, and will be hoping that counts for something when Maresca is considering his starting lineup for today's clash.
The Italian tactician has stated that the Anglo-Nigerian forward could leave before the end of the transfer window but another stellar performance against Wolves could convince Chelsea to keep him.
