Search for a proven goalscorer: Chelsea identify Brentford marksman as alternative to Osimhen
Published: August 27, 2024According to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, Chelsea have made a move to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney who is also wanted by Saudi Pro-League side Al-Ahli.
The Blues have been linked with Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen all summer but have been unable to reach an agreement with Napoli for the striker.
Also, the Napoli star isn't ready to reduce his salary and he isn't interested in joining the Premier League giants on a loan deal and it now appears that the west London club are considering alternatives.
Unlike Osimhen, Toney won't be costly, and his wage demand will fit the two-time UEFA Champions League winners' wage structure, but it remains to be seen whether the England international will be keen on moving to Stamford Bridge.
He has reportedly agreed on a three-year deal worth £50m with Al-Ahli, but an agreement is yet to be reached with Brentford, who are demanding £50m for his signature.
The 28-year-old is keen on leaving the Bees and didn't make the matchday squad in their opening two Premier League games against Crystal Palace and Liverpool respectively.
Should Chelsea complete a move for Toney, it will make Osimhen's situation more delicate as Paris Saint-Germain have not firmed up their interest in him and he is not keen on moving to the Saudi Pro-League.
