Published: September 02, 2024Seven Super Eagles players have touched down in Uyo ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification game against Benin's Cheetahs.
Nottingham Forest duo Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina, Lazio's Fisayo Dele-Bashiiru William Troost-Ekong, West Bromwich Albion defender Semi Ajayi, Olisa Ndah and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman are the seven players that touched down in Uyo by 10 am today.
Awoniyi and Aina are staging a return to the squad after missing the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin last month and friendly games against Mali and Ghana in March though the former hasn't featured for the Super Eagles this year.
Troost-Ekong is also making a return to the squad having not featured for the three-time African champions since the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations against Ivory Coast in February.
This is Ndah's first invitation since participating in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations third group game against Guinea-Bissau.
Ajayi and Lookman have yet to miss a game since the start of the year, though they have had contrasting fortunes with their clubs since the start of this season.
Lookman hasn't made the matchday squad for Atalanta since their loss in the UEFA Super Cup to Real Madrid due to his attempt to leave the club, while Ajayi has played in all of West Brom's fixtures this term.
The Super Eagles, under the tutelage of Austin Eguavoen will start the qualifiers on Saturday with a game against familiar foes Benin at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
