Super Eagles arrival video: Iwobi, Bassey, Onyeka all smiles as they report for international duty
Published: September 03, 2024Super Eagles midfielders Alex Iwobi and Frank Onyeka, along with defender Calvin Bassey, have arrived at the team's camp in Uyo ahead of the crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
The players were seen arriving at the camp on Tuesday morning in a video uploaded on X by the Super Eagles media team.
They were welcomed by team staff with smiles and laughter as they stepped out of their vehicle with their luggage.
Vice-captain William Troost-Ekong was among those who greeted the new arrivals, further boosting the team's morale as preparations for the qualifiers intensify.
With their arrival, the number of players in camp has increased to fourteen.
Other players already present include William Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina, Semi Ajayi, Ademola Lookman, Olisa Udah, Taiwo Awoniyi, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Wilfred Ndidi, Amas Obasogie, Victor Boniface, and Stanley Nwabali.
Interim manager Austin Eguavoen, who arrived at the camp on Monday night, will lead the training sessions as the team gears up for the matches.
The arrival of key players like Iwobi, Onyeka, and Bassey is expected to provide a significant boost to the squad, with more players still expected to join in the coming hours.
Eguavoen will be supported by his assistants, Fidelis Ilechukwu of Enugu Rangers and Daniel Ogunmodede of Remo Stars.
Both coaches bring valuable experience from the Nigerian league, with Ogunmodede's Remo Stars finishing second in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and Ilechukwu leading Rangers International to the league title.
The Super Eagles are set to face Benin Republic in their first match of the qualifiers, followed by a clash with Rwanda.
These matches are crucial for Nigeria's quest to secure a spot in the 2025 AFCON tournament.
