Talented, versatile 17yo Nigerian midfielder signs new deal with Manchester City
Published: September 03, 2024Talented teenage English-born Nigerian midfielder Femi Fapetu has signed a new deal with Premier League champions Manchester City.
Three years after leaving Arsenal for good, Fapetu has put pen to paper on his first professional contract with the Citizens.
Allnigeriasoccer.com exclusively reported eighteen months ago that the Citizens had identified him as one of the top talents in their academy and were keen on securing his long-term future by offering him a scholarship and a professional contract.
Fapetu was offered fresh terms on the back of his outstanding performances for City's youth team since joining them as a schoolboy from Arsenal.
A midfielder capable of performing multiple roles in the center of the pitch, including the number 6 and number 8 roles, he has registered an impressive 22 appearances in the U18 Premier League.
Fapetu appeared in two matches in the Premier League 2 before turning 17, which shows how highly he is rated by Manchester City's coaching staff.
On the international stage, the Stoke-on-Trent native has represented England at U15, U16 and U17 levels, though he has not been named to the Young Lions rosters for their internationals in September 2024.
In the coming years, Fapetu will be aiming to emulate Tosin Adarabioyo, Kelechi Iheanacho, Nedum Onuoha, Samuel Edozie, Kelvin Etuhu and Reece Wabara who rose through the youth team ranks to make their first team debuts for Manchester City.
