'They are good footballers' - Dessers rates Rangers new arrivals highly after brace v Dundee
Published: September 21, 2024Cyriel Dessers has expressed his happiness towards Rangers' new signings after scoring a brace in the Gers’ 3-0 win over Dundee in the quarterfinal of the Scottish League Cup, played at the Ibrox Stadium on Saturday.
The Nigerian striker opened the scoring in the 18th minute, tucking the ball home from James Tavernier's cross after his initial effort was saved by Dundee goalkeeper Trevor Carson.
Tavernier doubled the Light Blues lead from the penalty spot after Mohamed Sylla had hacked Dessers down in the penalty area.
The Belgium-born forward grabbed his brace in the 66th minute with a half-volley from Nedim Bajrami's cross to put the game beyond the reach of Dundee.
Speaking with Ranger's official YouTube channel, he expressed his pleasure in playing with Ranger's new signings Bajrami and Václav Černý, both of whom supported the experienced forward in attack today as well as Tom Lawrence.
"For me, it is really nice to play with them, obviously. They are very good footballers, that helps obviously as a striker to have them around you but you can see like that there are connections forming and you get to know each other, you just with like eye contact or with a movement or a certain run.
"You can feel each other and that is a good thing and yeah this is the beginning hopefully we can develop that and become better altogether.”
Bajrami joined the Scottish giants from Sassuolo on a permanent deal this summer, while Černý is on loan from German outfit VfL Wolfsburg.
There were calls to drop Dessers for another new signing, Hamza Igamane, before today's clash, but he responded in style to help Phillipe Clement's side in their bid to retain the Scottish League Cup title.
