Tottenham, West Ham, Newcastle keeping tabs on Nigerian CB who is in line to be cap-tied to Italy
Published: October 13, 2024Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly still interested in signing dual-national central defender Caleb Okoli after missing out on his signature in the summer transfer window.
TBR has reported that Tottenham are keeping close tabs on the progress of the Italian-born Nigerian player.
The Lilywhites considered swooping for Okoli before he departed Atalanta for the Foxes in July 2024 after extensively scouting him during his time in Italy.
While Okoli caught the attention of the scouts, they had some doubts about his ability to adapt to the Premier League.
Newcastle United and West Ham United were in similar positions to Tottenham, and are also keeping an eye on Okoli, with a view to a transfer in the future.
After he was a non-playing substitute in Leicester City's first two matches of the new Premier League season, Okoli has now broken into the starting lineup, having started each of their last five matches in the division.
The Vicenza-born defender is currently on international duty with the Italian squad and he's in line to play a cap-tying game for his country of birth on Monday evening when they take on Israel at the Friuli in Udine.
Okoli was an unused substitute against France and Israel in September and was not given minutes in the most recent international against Belgium.
The 23-year-old is eligible to represent the Super Eagles through his Nigerian parents Paul and Tina Okoli who arrived in Italy in 1996.
