Jamaldeen Jimoh: Unai Emery hands home debut to talented midfielder in Aston Villa's loss to Crystal Palace
Published: October 31, 2024Manager Unai Emery handed a home debut to talented Nigerian midfielder Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba as Aston Villa crashed out of the Carabao Cup in the fourth round stage, losing 2-1 to Crystal Palace at Villa Park on Wednesday night, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Wearing the number 56 shirt, the teenager replaced Emiliano Buendía with eleven minutes remaining as Aston Villa searched for an equalizer.
Jimoh has already made his senior debut for Aston Villa after joining from West Brom in the summer of 2023, but Wednesday's clash was his first appearance at Villa Park.
One of the top prospects at Aston Villa academy, his first game for The Villans' first team was in the third round of the Carabao Cup against Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park, where he replaced Emiliano Buendía in stoppage time.
Crystal Palace made it through to the last eight of the Carabao Cup, thanks to goals from Eberechi Eze and
Daichi Kamada in between a strike from the exciting young forward Jhon Durán.
Having caught the eye while training with the first team in pre-season, he was rewarded with a new multi-year contract earlier this month.
The 18-year-old is a key member of Aston Villa's development squad, scoring twice in seven appearances this term, and made debuts in the UEFA Youth League and EFL Trophy in September 2024.
Jimoh has represented England at U16, U17 and U18 levels and was on standby for England U19s in their October fixtures against Portugal, Netherlands and France.
