Nigeria squad announcement: Arsenal and Chelsea products named to 23-man roster for Afconq
Published: November 06, 2024The Nigeria Football Federation have announced the Super Eagles squad list for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin's Cheetahs and Rwanda's Wasps.
An analysis of the roster revealed that three goalkeepers, seven defenders, six midfielders and seven strikers have been summoned for the Afcon qualifiers.
Nigeria's interim manager Augustine Eguavoen has kept faith with majority of the players called up for the internationals in September and October.
Arsenal's Hale End Academy product Alex Iwobi and Chelsea alum Ola Aina are set to add to their international caps, having made the squad list.
The other English-based players invited for the double header are Calvin Bassey (Fulham) and Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City).
The Nigeria Football Federation have made a move to cap-tie Gabriel Osho with the inclusion of the Reading academy graduate on the roster.
Osho was called up for Nigeria's March internationals against West African rivals Ghana and Mali, but was forced to pull out of the squad due to injury.
Real Sociedad striker Umar Sadiq is back in the squad for the first time since March, while Nasarawa United central defender Victor Collins has earned his first senior call-up.
Nigeria will battle Benin at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan on November 14, before facing Rawada at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo four days later.
