Osimhen, Iwobi, Aina, Lookman, Boniface among 21 players in Super Eagles camp
Published: November 12, 2024The Super Eagles camp has been boosted by the arrival of 10 more players ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin at Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium on Thursday night.
Ten players, which include 2024 Ballon d'Or nominee Ademola Lookman, reigning African Men's Player of the Year Victor Osimhen, Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi and Nottingham Forest fullback Ola Aina, have joined up with the rest of the squad.
Veteran centre-back William Troost-Ekong, Bayer Leverkusen marksman Victor Boniface, New England Revolution midfielder Alhassan Yusuf, Calvin Bassey, Fenerbahçe fullback Bright Osayi-Samuel and newly invited defender Victor Collins have also arrived.
This implies that the number of players in the camp has surged to 21 ahead of the showdown with the Gernot Rohr-led Benin side.
Four players from the squad announced for the games against Libya have been dropped, with those being Semi Ajayi, who picked up an injury in action for West Bromwich Albion, Benjamin Tanimu, Taiwo Awoniyi and Chidera Ejuke, who has also sustained a long-term injury.
This has led to a recall for former Luton Town centre-back Gabriel Osho, a maiden invitation for Collins, while Osimhen, who was injured for the last fixture, and Umar Sadiq are back in the squad.
Sadiq and first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali are the only two players yet to resume the camp ahead of the first training session today.
