Man Utd new coach Amorim has big plans for Obi-Martin after holding talks with key club officials
Published: November 19, 2024Manchester United’s new manager, Ruben Amorim, has set plans to fast-track Chido Obi-Martin’s integration into first-team football after holding strategic talks with key club officials, according to GIVEMESPORT.
Amorim, who took charge following Erik ten Hag’s departure, is reportedly eager to integrate the youngster into his senior setup sooner rather than later.
Obi-Martin, a summer signing from Arsenal, has been in scintillating form since arriving at Old Trafford.
The prolific forward made headlines last season with 32 goals in just 18 appearances for Arsenal’s U18s, prompting a scramble among Europe’s elite clubs for his signature.
The Red Devils edged out competition, including a strong retention bid from Arsenal and direct intervention by Mikel Arteta, by presenting Obi-Martin with a clear pathway to the first team.
Since joining, Obi-Martin has continued to shine, netting a hat-trick on his starting debut for United’s U18s against Nottingham Forest.
In total, the teenager has recorded four goals and an assist in four games.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Amorim receiving glowing reports from technical director Jason Wilcox, academy head Nick Cox, and technical coach Darren Fletcher.
Amorim has immediate plans to integrate Obi-Martin to the first team. The Portuguese manager intends to involve the striker in Under-21 matches and select first-team training sessions as a stepping stone to senior action.
Recently called up to Denmark’s U18 squad, Obi-Martin again found the back of the net in a 2-1 defeat to Finland.
Despite this, the young forward is still eligible to represent Nigeria at international level.
