Eguavoen's most used player in Afconq, Onyemaechi impresses in new role for Boavista
Published: December 09, 2024Super Eagles star Bruno Onyemaechi showed his versatility in his thirteenth game of the season as Boavista were held to a 1-1 draw by SC Farense in a Liga Portugal clash at Estádio do Bessa Século XXI on Sunday, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Miguel Reisinho's penalty in the fifth minute of stoppage time helped the Panthers come from behind to earn a point.
Onyemaechi is one of the first names on manager Cristiano Bacci's team sheet, thanks to his versatility.
Knowing the strengths of Onyemaechi, Bacci has asked him to play in multiple positions when required.
Predominantly a left-back, this season, he has played in three other positions for Boavista, including left winger, left midfielder and central defender.
Against SC Farense, Onyemaechi took on a more advanced role on the left wing of the attack and looked comfortable, frequently making his presence felt in the penalty area.
He registered a game-high four shots, with one on target, made more tackles (5) than any other player on the pitch, and won three aerial duels.
Boavista have a fight on their hands to keep hold of Onyemaechi with Turkish club Trabzonspor keeping tabs on the defender.
Onyemaechi was Augustine Eguavoen's most used player in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, going the distance in five consecutive matches played by the Super Eagles, an honor he shared with William Troost-Ekong.
