Butler-Oyedeji battles Saka, Rice, Gabriel Jesus, 3 others for Arsenal Goal of the Month
Published: January 04, 2025Anglo-Nigerian forward Nathan Butler-Oyedeji has been nominated for Arsenal's Goal of the Month for December 2024.
The 22-year-old's perfect strike in Arsenal U21's 2-1 loss to Sunderland in the Premier League 2 fixture played at Meadow Park was chosen as one of the best goals scored in the month.
After Timur Tuterov had given Sunderland the lead, the talented striker restored parity for the home side by finding the bottom corner.
An 82nd-minute strike from Marcus Neille condemned Mehmet Ali's side to their third league defeat at Meadow Park this season.
Butler-Oyedeji's strike versus Sunderland is in the running alongside Bukayo Saka's goal against Monaco in the UEFA Champions League, Gabriel Jesus’ third goal against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup and his effort against the Eagles in the Premier League
Declan Rice's strike against Crystal Palace was also nominated, along with Ismail Oulad M'Hand's goal in the UEFA Youth League, Stina Blackstenius' close-range finish for Arsenal Women against Aston Villa, and Alessia Russo, who received double nominations for her goals against Aston Villa and Valarenga.
Butler-Oyedeji has been in great form this term, chipping in seven goals in nine games in the Premier League 2 and was named the Player of the Month in August 2024.
He has yet to feature for the first team but was named in the matchday squad for the Premier League clash with Southampton at the Emirates and has been among the substitutes in four UEFA Champions League games this term.
Due to his lack of game time with the first team, he has been linked with a move away from the Emirates with Swiss side FC Zürich reported to be interested in his services.
