Confirmed: Super Eagles left-back joins MFK Zemplin Michalovce after 18 months without a club
Published: January 06, 2025With a statement on the official website, Slovak First Football League side MFK Zemplín Michalovce have announced the signing of Nigeria international Kingsley Madu.
After parting ways with AS Trenčín at the end of the 2022-2023 season, the left-back remained unemployed for 18 months.
The experienced defender agreed with the management of MFK Zemplín Michalovce on a contract until the summer of 2026 with a club option for the 2026-2027 season.
MFK Zemplín Michalovce have signed a player with Slovak First Football League experience as he has played in one hundred matches in the division and has scored five goals.
Madu is the third Nigerian player on the books of MFK Zemplín Michalovce, after Abdul Zubair and Issa Adekunle.
He began his professional career at AS Trenčín in the winter of 2014, later playing for Belgian clubs SV Zulte Waregem and KSV Roeselare, as well as Danish side Odense BK, before returning to Trenčín four years ago.
In his first words as a player of MFK Zemplín Michalovce, Madu said: "I want to work hard and help the team. I hope that we secure a place in the top six and maybe even fight for the European Cup.
"MFK Zemplín is a great club with good players who want to play football. I am very happy that I can represent Michalovce. I am extremely happy that I can start my career again after a long time."
Madu won a domestic double with AS Trenčín in back-to-back seasons, 2014–15 and 2015–16, leading to call-up to the Nigeria squad for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where he won a bronze medal.
The 29-year-old has not featured for the Super Eagles since earning his third cap in an international friendly against Mali in May 2016.
