Arsenal coach promotes English-Nigerian-Egyptian left-back to first team training pre-Tottenham
Published: January 14, 2025
Manager Mikel Arteta promoted English-Nigerian-Egyptian defender Cam'ron Ismail to first team training ahead of his side's Premier League encounter against Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium.
The left-back appeared in the latest training photos shared on Arsenal's official website on Tuesday, on the eve of the north London derby.
Ismail was called up to first team training to make up the numbers, with three fullbacks ruled out of Wednesday's contest against Tottenham Hotspur.
Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Riccardo Calafiori are all sidelined due to injuries.
Although Ismail wasn't included in Arsenal's 22-man Premier League squad, the teenage defender can participate in the competition as an U21 player, having been born after January 1, 2003.
The 18-year-old has yet to receive a call-up for a first team game, though he has trained with the senior players several times.
He made his debuts off the bench in the UEFA Youth League, EFL Trophy and Premier League 2 this season.
Ismail joined Arsenal at U15 level after he was spotted playing in an Elite Development Academy Soccer shop window, and began the 2024-2025 season as a second-year scholar.
He was originally a striker before he was converted to a left-back, where he can contribute defensively and offensively.
