Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq opens Valencia account in Copa del Rey victory
Published: January 14, 2025
Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq opened his goal account for Valencia, scoring in their victory over Ourense FC in the Copa del Rey, with live soccer scores showing Los Ches leading 2-0 after he found the net.
Sadiq, who joined Valencia on loan from Real Sociedad in January, netted the second goal with twelve minutes remaining.
His strike sealed the win after an earlier own goal by Francisco Carmona had given Valencia the lead.
The Nigerian international finished brilliantly after a precise assist from Sergi Canós set him up for the goal.
Sadiq had earlier come close to scoring in the 65th minute when his effort struck the post.
He started the match and was later substituted for Pablo López after his impressive contribution, which ensured Valencia progressed to the next round of the competition.
Sadiq joined Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022 following an impressive spell with Almería, signing a contract that runs until the end of the 2027–28 season.
He scored his debut goal just two days after completing the move, netting in a 1-1 draw against Atlético Madrid.
Despite the impressive start, he endured a challenging spell since recovering from the anterior cruciate ligament injury he sustained against Getafe.
Since his return, he has struggled for consistent playing time, often being regarded as second choice behind Spanish striker Mikel Oyarzabal.
Sadiq will be in high spirits after breaking his scoring drought and will hope the goal boosts his confidence as he aims to revive his form for the remainder of the season.
