Official: Genoa loan out promising centre-back Alessandro Marcandalli to Venezia
Published: January 29, 2025With a statement on the official website, Serie A side Venezia have announced the signing of dual-national defender Alessandro Marcandalli for the remainder of the 2024-2025 season.
The promising centre-back has departed parent club Genoa in search of adequate playing opportunities.
Born in Ponte San Pietro, he is eligible to represent the Super Eagles through his Nigerian mother.
Considering the fact that he has appeared for Italy at U20 level, the Italian Football Federation are believed to be ahead of their Nigerian counterparts in the race for the services of Marcandalli, whose dad is Italian.
This season, he has been called-up for twenty-one times for official games but made only two appearances, against Bologna and Como in the Serie A, logging 46 minutes.
Marcandalli honed his skills in the youth systems of Atalanta and Giana Erminio, eventually making his senior debut for the latter club.
He later secured a permanent transfer to Genoa, making 44 appearances and netting 2 goals across the U18 and Primavera squads.
Speaking after putting pen to paper, Marcandalli saaid: "Joining Venezia is an exciting and inspiring challenge for me. I've always heard great things about this club, and I'm proud to be a part of it.
"Last year, when I played at the Penzo, I was deeply impressed by the extraordinary atmosphere in the stadium.
"Now, I can't wait to step onto the pitch, give my all, and experience these emotions together with our fans."
Sitting 19th in the 20-team standings with 16 points from 22 matches, Venezia are in a tough battle to avoid relegation.
