Lookman to leave Atalanta this summer after face-off with coach Gian Piero Gasperini
Published: February 19, 2025
Ademola Lookman is expected to leave Atalanta this summer following a fallout with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini, according to transfer market reporter Fabrizio Romano.
Romano reported that the plan for Lookman to depart was already in place last summer, with the club intending to finalize the transfer this year.
Despite recent tensions between the player and Gasperini, Atalanta remains committed to this decision.
The situation escalated after Gasperini made strong comments about Lookman following Atalanta’s Champions League exit.
The manager criticized the Nigerian forward’s penalty-taking abilities, sparking a public reaction from Lookman.
The forward responded on social media, calling the remarks "deeply disrespectful" and explaining that he took the penalty at the request of the designated taker.
Atalanta is expected to address the situation with Gasperini in the next 24 hours, but Romano noted that this will not impact the club’s transfer plans.
The Serie A side remains firm on its intention to part ways with Lookman in the upcoming transfer window.
Lookman has been a key player for Atalanta since joining from RB Leipzig in 2022.
His standout performances included a hat-trick in the 2024 Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, securing Atalanta’s first-ever European title.
With the summer transfer window approaching, several European clubs are likely to express interest in signing the Nigerian forward.
