Liverpool's teenage Nigerian forward training with Arsenal after Tottenham Hotspur trial
Published: February 20, 2025
Premier League giants Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for teenage Nigerian forward Cornelius Akaunu.
According to Arsenal youth team expert, Jeorge Bird, Akaunu is currently training with Arsenal ahead of a potential transfer.
The promising forward featured as a trialist for the Gunners U17s in a friendly at Hale End this week, with Arsenal winning the game 3-1.
Given that Akanu has been allowed to train with both Tottenham and Arsenal, it seems unlikely he will extend his stay at Liverpool beyond the 2024-2025 season.
The winger was on target in a 4-0 victory against Fulham while on trial at Tottenham Hotspur.
Akaunu joined Liverpool's academy in the summer of 2017 alongside twenty-one other U9 players.
Their contracts were signed with Reds legend Steven Gerrard in attendance, shortly after it was announced he would take charge of the U18s the next season.
Akaunu is in his final season as a schoolboy and becomes eligible to sign a scholarship contract with an English club in the summer of 2025.
All players in their U17 year must start the 2025-2026 season with a scholarship agreement before they become eligible to sign their first professional football contract.
Akaunu has yet to make his debuts in the U18 Premier League and FA Youth Cup.
