Suspended Getafe forward Uche battles Barcelona star Yamal, 3 others for La Liga U23 POTM
Published: February 20, 2025
Super Eagles hopeful Christantus Uche has been nominated for La Liga's U23 Player of the Month for February 2025 following his outstanding performances for Getafe.
The versatile forward started all the matches contested by Getafe in the Spanish top-flight in February, logging 212 minutes, and helping them pick up seven points from a possible nine, while posting two clean sheets.
After bagging a goal and assist in his last match in January, Uche opened the scoring in Getafe's most recent match, a 2-1 victory over Girona on February 14.
The 21-year-old is battling Barcelona's Lamine Yamal, Valencia's Javi Guerra, Real Betis' Jesús Rodríguez and Celta de Vigo's Javi Rodríguez for the La Liga U23 Player of the Month award.
He is having a breakout season at Getafe, which has not gone unnoticed by teams in the English Premier League, with Brentford among his admirers.
Uche has a contract with Getafe until June 30, 2028, with a club option for the 2028-2029 campaign.
Meanwhile, the promising forward will not be available for selection on Sunday when Getafe tackle Real Betis in La Liga due to accumulation of yellow cards.
He is suspended for the game after accumulating five cautions, which triggered an automatic one-match ban.
As a result, his streak of appearing in 24 consecutive La Liga matches will come to an end this weekend.
