'Akor has been unfortunate' - Sevilla sporting director backs Adams amid injury woes
Published: April 14, 2025
Sevilla sporting director, Víctor Orta has rallied support for Akor Adams, the Nigerian forward who was signed in the winter window - after another spell on the sideline.
Since joining Sevilla, Adams has featured in four league games but injuries have halted his growth and development for the club.
The former Flying Eagles striker has suffered two muscle injuries since moving to the Rojiblancos.
The recent injury ensured he missed the 1-0 defeat to Valencia on Friday night and might keep him out for the rest of the season.
The situation has sparked concern over the fitness of the Nigerian striker and his ability to cope with the demands and physicality of the La Liga.
Despite the concern, Orta expressed confidence in the ability of the Nigerian striker to survive at the club.
Speaking at the presentation of the new coach Joaquín Caparrós, Orta expressed sympathy with the Nigerian striker and revealed the club is monitoring the injury situation.
"What Akor has suffered has been unfortunate, but we will study why these injuries occurred, we have a lot of confidence in him."
Adams was named in the Super Eagles provisional squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe but missed out on the final 23-man roster.
The 25-year-old, a member of the Flying Eagles squad to the 2019 Fifa U20 World Cup in Poland, is uncapped at senior level.
