'We already met them twice' - Rwanda captain unfazed by Super Eagles attack led by Osimhen
Published: March 20, 2025
Rwanda captain Djihad Bizimana has expressed confidence in his team's readiness ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria on Friday.
Speaking during the pre-match press conference on Thursday, Bizimana dismissed any concerns about Nigeria's attacking threats, emphasizing that his focus is solely on Rwanda's own preparation.
Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen will surely lead the Super Eagles attack on Friday evening, with reigning African Footballer of the Year Ademola Lookman and one of Samuel Chukwueze or Moses Simon playing alongside him.
In response to a question about whether Rwanda is concerned about Nigeria's offensive capabilities, Bizimana said, "There’s no worry, there’s nothing to worry about. We already met them twice, and I think most of them are here, so there is nothing to worry about."
The Rwanda captain acknowledged Nigeria’s reputation as a formidable team, but made it clear that his squad is focusing on their own game.
"We respect them as a big team with big names, but as players, we are really focused on what we are doing in training," Bizimana added.
The statement highlighted Rwanda's belief in their ability to compete against Nigeria despite the challenges.
The team is eager to build on their recent performances and show that they are prepared for the challenge.
Bizimana’s comments reflect the team’s confidence and focus, with the captain suggesting that they are ready to give their all in the match.
Bizimana also touched on the team’s determination, explaining, "We will go and try to give 100%, even 150%, because we know they are a good team and they really want to win this game to come back to the top."
The captain’s words emphasize the collective mindset within the squad, which is preparing for a tough encounter but remains focused on delivering a strong performance.
The Super Eagles will be hoping to revive their dream of qualification as they have yet to win a game in the qualifying campaign after four matches.
Friday’s match is pivotal for both teams as they look to secure points in the highly competitive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
While Nigeria aims to reignite their qualification hopes, Rwanda will be eager to make a strong statement with a positive result at home.
