'We will see tomorrow' - Troost-Ekong fires back at Rwanda captain over stopping Super Eagles attack

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has issued a defiant response to Rwanda captain Djihad Bizimana's claim that the Amavubi can neutralize Nigeria's attacking threat in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday.
Speaking to journalists ahead of the crucial encounter, Bizimana dismissed concerns about Nigeria's attacking prowess, referencing Rwanda's strong defensive performances during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
Despite boasting world-class forwards like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Boniface, the Super Eagles have struggled against Rwanda in recent meetings.
During the 2025 AFCON qualifiers campaign, Nigeria played a 1-1 draw with the Amavubi in Kigali before a shock 2-1 loss in Uyo.
Despite the setback, Troost-Ekong remained confident in Nigeria's attacking firepower.
"Starting off, I think we have, maybe, one of the best attacking players (forwards) in the world not just in Africa," the former Watford defender stated in his pre-match press conference.
Acknowledging the challenge of playing away in African qualifiers, Troost-Ekong fired back back Bizimana's confidence.
"I think every team in Africa is difficult to play against away from home."
"We respect Rwanda, we prepare for them so I am happy to hear they believe they can handle our team, if that's their preparation, so we would see tomorrow in the game," he said.
Currently fifth in Group C, Nigeria is in dire need of a victory to keep its World Cup hopes alive. Head coach Eric Chelle will be counting on his attacking stars to deliver a statement performance and break Rwanda's resistance.
