'It's about finding the balance' - Nuno Espirito Santo reflects on Ola Aina's absence in loss to Aston Villa
Published: April 06, 2025
Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has downplayed the impact of Ola Aina’s absence following their narrow 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday evening at Villa Park.
Aina, who has been one of Forest’s standout performers this season, missed the encounter due to a calf injury sustained during the team’s 1-0 win over Manchester United at the City Ground.
His absence was felt, especially in a first half where Forest struggled to contain Villa’s attacking momentum.
The Nigeria international has been pivotal in Forest’s campaign so far, registering two goals and one assist across 30 league appearances.
Known for his relentless defensive work and attacking support, Aina’s presence has been instrumental in Forest’s push for a UEFA Champions League spot.
His injury setback sparked concerns among fans and pundits alike, particularly in light of Forest's sluggish first-half performance against Unai Emery’s high-flying Villa side.
However, speaking on BBC Match of the Day, Nuno Espirito Santo urged for calm and stressed the importance of team cohesion over individual reliance.
“We had some absences," Nuno said. ”It's all about finding the balance and still being able to perform."
With a crucial run-in ahead, Forest will be hopeful for Aina’s swift recovery as they look to maintain momentum and secure a place among Europe’s elite next season.
