Women League Board Thumps Up Flamingoes
Published: September 30, 2012
Nigeria Women League Board, has congratulated the Nigeria’s Under-17 women football team for topping their group after Halimatu Ayinde's second brace of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup sent Nigeria to the quarter-finals in a routine 3 - 0 victory over Colombia on Saturday.
The vice Chairman of NWLB, Debo Adeoye disclosed this while reacting to the sporting press on the performance of the girls in the tourney so far saying the Flamingoes have been excellent and very appeared committed.
He equally expressed appreciation to various clubs that groomed these great ambassadors as well as NFF for the improved welfare package and encouragement accorded the team and other national teams.
Adeoye however, advised Maigari-led board of the NFF to give women football league their unequalled support if truly they are sincere about the struggle to bring to Nigeria all elusive FIFA trophies and put smiles on the faces of football lovers in Nigeria.
"What Nigerians are enjoying now is our widow's mite, if our parent - NFF could be kind enough to carry out its responsibility coupled with the complementary support and contributions of highly placed individuals, like Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, Senator David Mark, Chief Jimoh Ibrahim among others who commit their hard-earned monies on women football and some State
Governors that encourage gender equality in their system of governance, winning those trophies for Nigerians wouldn't be a problem”.
He added that, our female national teams are dominated by players from our local league, “at least 99% of national team’s players were from the local league. We should all agree that our agitation for recognition and support for both the league and club's handlers make sense”.
“Though, the NFF boss has promised to lift women football to greater height and support women league board in its quest to transform the domestic league and make it best in the world. Presently, our league is among the better ones but we want to move up and be rated best. With the support of Maigari's led board and head of administration and other departmental heads
at the glass house, I belief this feat is achievable”, he enthused.
