OPABUNMI Gets Oyo State Government's =N=0.5 Million

Oyo State Government has reiterated its readiness to assist past and present sportsmen and women who are facing one challenge or the other maintaining that they will not let their labour go in vain.

Oyo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Lam-Adesina said this while presenting a cheque of =N=500,000.00 to ex-Shooting Stars and Super Eagles winger, Femi Opabunmi at his office on behalf of the State Government.

"We are doing this as part of our promises to the people and also affirming that this administration will not wait till our heroes depart us before we assist them especially when they are in need".

He called on other well meaning individuals to rally support for our ex-internationals especially in their times of need, promising that government will also play her part in assisting.

"This is a token from the Executive Governor of Oyo State because we have seen how much you have contributed to sport in Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole especially now that you’re recuperating from a career threatening injury, and we would make sure that henceforth our heroes are assisted during their lifetime and not to sponsor their burial when we could have done something while they are still alive".

"I want to let you know that it is not just the money, the Government and the people of the state wish you well and pray that almighty God will be with you as you use this token to take good care of yourself, we will not leave you”, the youthful Commissioner enthused.

While responding, Opabunmi expressed his deepest gratitude to the Government of Oyo State for the assistance saying he will never forget the humanitarian gesture of Senator Abiola Ajimobi led Government.

"First of all I give glory to Almighty God who had been my strength, and then I want to thank the Governor for this kind gesture, and Commissioner for this assistance".

Femi Opabunmi was a member of the Silver medal winning Golden Eaglet to the FIFA Under-17 championship in Trinidad and Tobago in 2001 and was part of the Super Eagles team to the Japan/Korea 2002 FIFA World Cup. He had problems with his sight which forced him to quit the game of football at the time he was still very active and plying his trade with Grasshopper FC of Switzerland.
