GBENGA AROKOYO: Well Deserved Victory For Eagles
Published: October 13, 2012
Mjällby central defender Gbenga Arokoyo has shared his thoughts and impressions on the Super Eagles 6 - 1 trashing of Liberia on Saturday evening at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar.
''It is a well deserved victory for the Eagles. But I expect them to do better in South Africa than what they played today, the team is gradually taking shape,'' says Arokoyo to allnigeriasoccer.com.
In four Nations Cup qualifying ties, the Eagles conceded three goals against Liberia and Rwanda. However, Arokoyo, a product of Kwara Football Academy has high ratings for Nigeria's defense.
He said: ''The defenders were excellent throughout the qualifiers and that is what everybody wants. I think it is a good idea for coach Stephen Keshi to mix foreign based and local defenders in the team, depending on his match tactics.
''Though Yobo did not play today, he has impressed me with his leadership qualities, and I'd pick him as Nigeria's best defender now.''
So far, he has made 6 appearances for Mjallby in the Swedish championship.
