Published: May 15, 2013
A member of House of Representative Hon. Awoleye Abiodun Dada has disclosed that Nigerian football would soon witness a total reform that will fast-track development in the sector as the lower house is about to pass a new law to that effect.
The lawmaker representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency told the sporting press in Ibadan that the House of Representative has been working on a bill that would address many impasses affecting the growth of the game (football) most Nigerians loved.
''Football is a formidable tool that binds our society together, it can only be stated that the entire country gets united when the national team comes into play. In brief, football is a characteristic of the Nigeria society that cannot be neglected.
''And in view of the above the legislative arm of government cannot fold hands and leave it in disarray. There is a bill on the floor ofthe house that has passed its second reading and would soon be passed into law which is going to help reform every sect of the vocation, from administrations to management, right from its grassroots level, I’m sure our football is going to witness a new dawn,'' Awoleye said.
The final of the annual grassroots football competition which the soccer enthusiast has been sponsoring for youths in his constituencywould be played this weekend at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba Ibadan.
The two finalists after the three months intensive grassroots soccer action are Mighty Stars and Shining Stars while Meridian FC and YK Abass would slug it out for third place earlier at the same venue.
Meanwhile, Awoleye would also at the event unveil a new club, Pacesetter FC which would now increase the numbers of Oyo State teamsin the Nationwide League to five, becoming the state with highest numbers of teams.
The rationale behind the formation of the team according to the lawmaker is to develop soccer at the grassroots, reduce insecurity and positively engagedyouths through the “language they seemed understand most” which is the round leather game.
