Former Chelsea captain Andy Townsend has highlighted the part played by two Nigerian players in the shape of Ademola Lookman and Ola Aina in the build-up to Josh Maja's first goal in Fulham's 2-0 win at Everton in a Premier League game on Sunday night.
Following a goalless first half, Bordeaux loanee Maja showed his predatory instincts to break the deadlock two minutes into the second half.
From his fullback position, Aina went charging forward and gave the ball to Lookman, the RB Leipzig loanee returned the pass to the left-back who played the ball across goal and Maja tapped in after peeling away from his marker.
Speaking on Premier League Productions at the end of the game, Townsend said : "Everton will be really disappointed when they analyze this. Some really good work down the left side between Aina and Lookman, really good combination play here.
"So from the Fulham point of view that's a great goal, it's a lovely one-touch football. From an Everton point of view it's different."
Lookman was also involved in the build-up to Maja's second goal in the 65th minute when he passed to Harrison Reed, who unleashed a shot from range that
struck the post and the Super Eagles striker was in the right place to tap the ball home.
