Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr has revealed that he is still in contact with his former player, Zinédine Zidane who now coaches La Liga champions Real Madrid.
Under the tutelage of the German football tactician, Zidane was a key member of the Bordeaux side beaten by Bayern Munich in the 1996 UEFA Cup final.
The Bordeaux side also featured 1998 World Cup winners Bixente Lizarazu and Christophe Dugarry, and ex-Barcelona midfielder Richard Witschge.
The 67-year-old Rohr admitted that he has earned a lot of respect from top Nigerian stars including John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses, which is related to his position as coach and age.
"In Nigeria the players have a lot of respect for the personality of the coach. They are very obedient.
"The elderly enjoy a lot of respect here. They are not just deported to homes, they stay in the family and are always listened to. That's wonderful.
"The older people get, the more respect they get. It's nice to see how the players implement this, including the big stars like Obi Mikel, Victor Moses or Vincent Enyeama".
Rohr is currently in Nigeria ahead of the national team's upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches with Benin and Lesotho.
