Former Nigeria international Sam Sodje has applauded Nigeria's number one citizen, President Muhammadu Buhari on the appointment he recently handed out to the country's football ambassador Daniel Amokachi.
Last week, the President conferred the Super Eagles legend with the honour of his Special Assistant on Sports, a role which will see him act as an adviser on all sports related matters.
Sodje pointed out the appointment was a good one in helping ex-pros become influential individuals in other administrative fields after active service for the nation, and not just in sports jobs or management.
"Appreciation is a wonderful thing, it makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well", Sodje said to allnigeriasoccer.com.
"It is with profound gratitude that I thank Mr. President for shedding light on #LifeAfterSports with the appointment of Daniel Amokachi as the Special Assistant on sports.
"This appointment is a clear indication to our young Nigerian sports men and women that a career in sports does not always result to being a sports coach, scout or agent after retirement.
"Some of us, ex-international footballers have taken our time to further educate ourselves for jobs like this and in the boardroom to be able to create a better path for young players to aspire to".
The Nigeria Football Federation early this year, engaged the services of another former international Joseph Yobo as the assistant coach to the country's senior national team.
