Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi has resumed training with Hull City as the Tigers intensify preparations for their upcoming Championship fixture against Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium on Friday.
The Nigerian defender’s return comes as a timely boost for the squad following concerns over his fitness during the recent international break.
Ajayi, who joined Hull City as a free agent from West Bromwich Albion last summer, had withdrawn from the Nigeria national football team camp ahead of the friendly against Jordan after suffering an injury scare.
The centre-back subsequently missed Nigeria’s 2-2 draw with Jordan in Antalya but had earlier featured for 45 minutes in the 2-1 victory over Iran.
According to Hull Live, Ajayi trained with his Hull City teammates at the club’s Cottingham base on Tuesday.
Despite the earlier injury concern, the Nigerian defender is expected to travel with the squad to Oxfordshire on Thursday evening.
His anticipated return will be a significant boost for manager Sergej Jakirović, given the defender’s influence this season.
Ajayi has made 16 appearances and scored once, while also providing leadership and experience as Hull City push for a place in the Championship promotion playoffs.
